Three Bays has some challenging tasks to accomplish.
Since 1996, Three Bays Preservation has worked tirelessly under the leadership of its board and staff and with the outstanding financial support of its membership. Such generosity has allowed us to undertake enormous tasks in our preservation programs for Barnstable’s “Three Bays” — North Bay, West Bay and Cotuit Bay:
- the Bays’ channels have been dredged and the natural flow of water maintained through the river and Bays.
- Dead Neck Island has been rebuilt as a barrier beach to protect areas behind it from storm damage.
- Three Bays has provided shellfish and Flupsys for the Town of Barnstable to replenish shellfish beds.
- the fragile bird habitat on Dead Neck has been carefully restored and is now a nesting place to 6 different species of coastal water birds.
- our organization sponsors annual EcoAdventure Tours of the Bays and other
programs for all ages. - Three Bays regularly conducts water quality sampling as part of the Massachusetts Estuaries Project.
- we participate in a variety of public outreach programs throughout Cape Cod.
- and the organization has written and published a wastewater guidance document that has been sent to every homeowner living in our watershed.
But our work is far from finished. There are tasks to be undertaken for many years to come. If we are to protect our waters and our entire aquatic environment for our own children and grandchildren — and for future generations — Three Bays Preservation still has much to do.
Can we count on your GENEROSITY for GENERATIONS to come?
